Dismissal from a doctoral programme

The reason for which you may be dismissed from a doctoral programme may be one of the following:


RD 99/2011

List of programmes regulated by the decree 99/2011

1. If you do not meet the specified deadlines for completing a full- or part-time doctoral degree, you will you will be asked to definitively withdraw from the doctoral programme.


2. If your research plan receives a Fail mark in two consecutive assessments, you will be asked to definitively withdraw from the programme.


3. If you fail to enrol for thesis tutorials in two consecutive academic years, you will be asked to definitively withdraw from the programme.


N.B. Candidates may request the temporary interruption of doctoral studies for one or more academic years, freeing them from any obligation to finalise the enrolment process if the coordinator of the doctoral degree so authorises it.


RD 1393/2007

List of programmes regulated by the decree 1393/2007

1. Because you have not passed bridging courses within the set period of two academic years. In this case, you will be able to reapply for admission to a doctoral programme at the University and request that any courses that you have passed be recognised and added to your academic record.


2. Because you have not passed the thesis proposal twice in succession. In this case, you will automatically be dismissed from the doctoral programme. You may, however, reapply for the same course, in accordance with the procedures established by the UPC.


3. Because you have not passed the thesis tutorials twice in succession. In this case, you will automatically be dismissed from the doctoral programme. You may, however, reapply for the same course, in accordance with the procedures established by the UPC.


N.B. Students may request the temporary interruption of doctoral studies for one or more academic years, freeing them from any obligation to finalise the enrolment process if the coordinator of the doctoral degree so authorises it.


N.B. If you began your doctoral studies in the framework of Royal Decree 778/1998 or Royal Decree 1393/2007, you have until 11 February 2016 to present and defend your doctoral thesis. If you do not, you will be asked to definitively withdraw from the programme.
