Cross-disciplinary training

This training offering is designed to provide doctoral students with the tools and skills necessary to conduct rigorous and innovative research in their areas of interest. The offer will be progressively expanded to offer a variety of specialized modules in advanced research methods, including quantitative and qualitative techniques, data analysis, experimental methods, field research, and many others, with the aim of increasing the ability for excellence in research.

Training courses and seminars offered by UPC professors or visitors, organized by the Doctoral School or in collaboration with the ICE.

These courses are a unique opportunity for doctoral students to develop skills that will be very useful throughout their academic and professional careers. Topics such as effective communication, leadership and team management, negotiation, time management, conflict resolution, and much more are included. The skills acquired will help them improve their ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, manage research tasks effectively, communicate research clearly and persuasively, and prepare to face the challenges and opportunities they will encounter in future stages of their career.

Training courses organized by UPC Alumni, and others in collaboration with the Doctoral School and the participation of external trainers.

In this line, there is an offer of courses programmed by the Language and Terminology Service of the UPC, or by external agents with its supervision for the improvement of language skills and communication in English.

This line includes courses and workshops designed to improve the personal skills and emotional wellbeing of doctoral candidates. In the pre-doctoral training stage it is essential, in parallel with the development of research, to cultivate essential life skills and emotional resilience. These courses aim to provide students with the tools and strategies necessary to thrive in their academic and professional careers, as well as, help them on the way to personal growth and wellbeing at this stage of their career.

These courses are developed in collaboration with the UPC Innovation and Community Office and UPC Alumni.

The Libraries, Publication and Archives Service, in collaboration with the ICE, organizes a training itinerary specifically aimed at doctoral students, and that responds to the needs of the different stages of pre-doctoral training, such as organization of information, scientific publication or preparation of the thesis manuscript.

This itinerary is complemented by the course Com finalitzar la tesi doctoral: dipòsit i defensa, taught by the Doctoral School.

Open and Citizen Science is becoming more and more important. The main objective of the courses in this training line is to promote a broader and interdisciplinary perspective in research, and to allow doctoral students to learn about the concepts of open science and citizen science. Training is also offered on the management of research data and the preparation of the Data Management Plan, as well as the values of ethics, sustainability and the gender dimension in research.

For the organization of these courses, the Doctoral School has the collaboration of UPC professors who are experts in these subjects. The Sustainability Institute, the Libraries Service, the UPC ethics committee and the Innovation and Community Office.

The Initiation to Teaching program (IniDoc), organized by the ICE, aims to enable participants to acquire basic knowledge and skills in university teaching, as well as reflect on how to address the main challenges in higher education.

Also included in this line are courses aimed at novice doctor teachers, who are starting to direct their first doctoral theses, in order to offer them resources for the development of successful strategies in the direction of doctoral theses and that affect the good development of the thesis.

This line incorporates courses organized by UPC Alumni aimed at improving the employability of doctoral students in the postdoctoral stage.

These courses are organized by the Doctoral School, with external trainers or in collaboration with the Research and Innovation Support Service of the UPC and the ICE, and aim to introduce doctoral students to the main programs of research funding, as well as train in the writing of proposals and management of research projects.

The main objective of this training is to foster the capacity for innovation and creativity in research projects, preparing doctoral students to tackle complex challenges and provide innovative solutions. The courses are taught by UPC teachers using a training methodology based on challenges.

Does your research have the potential to be transferred to the market? The courses and activities programmed in this line offer doctoral students the tools and knowledge necessary to turn the results of their research into something of tangible value for society, in order to become agents of change and promoters of the transfer of knowledge and technology from the academic field to the business world and society. The main objective of this training is to enhance the capacity of future researchers to identify opportunities, create new companies or collaborate with the private sector to bring innovation and contribute to economic development.

The courses are taught by UPC or guest professors and have the collaboration of the UPC Innovation Management Service.
