Payment of the doctoral enrolment

(see the section on fees)

You have five payment options:

Cash: You will need to pay the lump sum at any of the banks listed on the enrolment form.

Credit card: You can pay by credit card via the e-Secretaria.

Línia oberta online banking: You can pay using the Línia oberta online banking system via the e-Secretaria.

Direct debit and in instalments:

The SEPA or Single Euro Payments Area came into effect on 28 February 2014. In the SEPA the same payment conditions apply regardless of the country.


Therefore, if from the 2014-2015 academic year onwards you wish to pay by direct debit or in instalments you must provide the University with a printed payment order signed by the account holder. Even if we have your bank details, we do not have the authorisation of the account holder, which we are obliged to ask for so that we can update the information.


The number of the account from which fees will be debited must follow the IBAN format. The account may be held in any of the SEPA countries. To find out if your country belongs to the SEPA, see the following link.


To print the payment order, all you need to do is access the e-Secretaria at and follow these steps:


  • Click on the Bank accounts menu on the left.
  • In the section These are your bank accounts find the account number that you gave us for previous enrolments. Print the payment order, sign it and then submit it to the unit in charge of your doctoral programme.
  • If you find that there is no bank account number in the section These are your bank accounts this means that you have never given us one, so you will need to add one. To do this click on Add a new bank account.
  • Once you have done this, you will need to fill in all of the details, including details of the account and the account holder.
  • Click Save.
  • A button will appear on the right-hand side that will enable you to print the payment order.
  • Print it, sign it and then hand it in to the unit in charge of the doctoral programme.


In the e-Secretaria you will be informed when the payment order has been validated by the University's administrative services. From that moment on you will be able to pay your enrolment fees by direct debit or in instalments.


Bear in mind that, although a time frame for processing has not been established, if you pay the enrolment fees in cash you cannot pay in instalments, and you must pay within five days. You must also submit the payment order within those five days. If this period ends and you wish to arrange to pay by direct debit or in instalments, you will be charged the set fee for enrolment changes.
