Doctoral School Open Day and Institutional final of the "Present your thesis in 4 minutes" contest

May 14, 2025

On 8 May, at the Auditorium of the Vèrtex building and live on YouTube, the 2025 Open Day of the UPC Doctoral School took place. During the main event, the 10 UPC finalists of the 8th edition of the contest "Present your thesis in 4 minutes" presented their theses. This initiative, promoted by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI), challenges PhD students from any scientific discipline to explain their research in a maximum of 4 minutes, using simple language that is easily understood by a general audience. The award winners in the institutional final were:

  • First place: José Enrique Domínguez Vidal, PhD student in the doctoral programme in Automatic Control, Robotics and Vision, with his thesis Human intention and its use in human-robot interaction, focused on how robotics can interpret and anticipate human intent to improve interaction with machines. He will represent UPC at the inter-university final of the contest, which will take place on 3 July at 5:30 pm at Espai Caixa Girona.
  • Second place: Jordi Doménech Fons, PhD student in the doctoral programme in Telematics Engineering, with his thesis Preventive and reactive cybersecurity techniques to protect connected medical devices.
  • Finally, in third place: Patricia López Gómez, PhD student in the doctoral programme in Biomedical Engineering, with the presentation of her thesis From the lab to life: how hydrogels are changing medicine.

From the Doctoral School, we are proud of their participation and wish them the very best of luck.
