The doctoral thesis by Joaquim Motger de la Encarnación, entitled Natural Language Processing Methods for Document-based Requirements Specification and Validation Tasks, has been awarded the SISTEDES Award for the Best Doctoral Thesis 2026 (https://www.sistedes.es/convocatoria-premio-sistedes-a-la-mejor-tesis-doctoral-2026).
The thesis, carried out at the Department of Computer Science of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), was submitted on September 27, 2024, and defended on November 4, 2024.
This thesis applies advanced natural language processing (NLP) techniques to automate and improve requirements management in software projects, particularly in complex, document-based environments, providing innovative solutions for requirements traceability, analysis, and feedback collection, and demonstrating significant improvements in efficiency and accuracy in real-world scenarios.
This award, granted by SISTEDES, annually recognizes the best doctoral theses in the field of Software Engineering at the national level.
