Teaching and guidance

The Initiation to Teaching program (IniDoc), organized by the ICE, aims to enable participants to acquire basic knowledge and skills in university teaching, as well as reflect on how to address the main challenges in higher education. The core of the program will be mentored teaching practices, which will be accompanied by a series of seminars that will provide the theoretical and methodological bases to get started on updated and innovative teaching. The program has a duration of 1 to 2 years.

A qui es dirigeix?

  • El programa està dirigit a estudiant de doctorat, preferentment amb beques FPU i PFI, i personal investigador postdoctoral
  • Per realitzar el programa és necessari tenir una vinculació amb la UPC
  • Cal estar vinculat a la UPC com a mínim fins l’abril de 2024
  • No hi ha limitació d’edat
  • No hi ha cap incompatibilitat per participar en aquest programa i estar en borses de treball de PDI a la UPC

Durada i temporització

  • Està previst tornar a oferir el programa el curs 2024-25, però no està del tot confirmat. Si es realitzés, s’ampliaria el número de places que s’oferten
  • El programa inclou 30 hores de pràctiques docents mentoritzades, com a mínim. Si se'n fan mes, es certificaran. No hi ha cap problema en que s’hagin realitzar activitats docents amb anterioritat, però no es certificaran

Idioma

  • L’idioma d’impartició dels seminaris de formació serà l’anglès. Es pot pactar català o castellà en funció de si tots els assistents estan d’acord
  • L’idioma d’impartició de les pràctiques docents es pactarà amb el mentor/a

Formació

  • No es convalida formació anterior
  • La formació serà presencial
  • Els seminaris de formació es realitzaran en dues jornades de formació. Es programaran dues edicions de cadascuna. La primera jornada serà al juliol de 2023. El setembre és previst fer la segona edició
  • Formació: sessió presencial de 4,5h a realitzar en 1 matí

Pràctiques docents

  • Les pràctiques docents es poden fer en 1 o 2 anys i la distribució s’haurà de pactar amb el mentor/a. Es poden concentrar en 1 quadrimestre o distribuir-la en els 2 quadrimestres
  • La docència a impartir dins de les pràctiques pot incloure:
    • Impartir classes teòriques o pràctiques en l’assignatura o assignatures, que determini el mentor o mentora
    • Tutories amb els estudiants als quals s’ha impartit docència per resoldre dubtes
    • Altres activitats especificades pel mentor o mentora
    • Supervisió i correcció d'exàmens i treballs, observació de tutories personals, etc
    • No pot implicar responsabilitat o coordinació sobre assignatures, ni la participació en tribunals de treballs de fi d’estudi o la signatura d’actes d’avaluació
    • Les pràctiques docents s’acordaran entre els mentors acadèmics i els investigadors novells abans d'iniciar el programa

Mentor

  • Només es pot tenir 1 mentor acadèmic
  • En la sol·licitud s’ha de posar el nom del mentor acadèmic. En cas de tenir més d’1 opció cal prioritzar i ordenar d’1 cap endavant per ordre de preferència
  • El mentor pot ser el director de tesi de l’estudiant

Altres

  • La participació en el programa no té compensació econòmica
  • La superació d’aquest programa es tindrà en compte per optar a qualsevol plaça de docència a la UPC. D’altra banda en el cas de que el participant s’inscrigui en el Programa de Postgrau: Ensenyament Universitari en Ciències, Tecnologia, Enginyeria, Arquitectura i Matemàtiques (STEAM), serà convalidable. Aquest postgrau, serà un mèrit preferent per optar a places de professorat permanent a la UPC

Who is it addressed to?

  • The program is addressed to doctoral students, preferably with FPU and PFI scholarships, and postdoctoral research staff
  • To carry out the program it is necessary to have a link with the UPC
  • You must be linked to the UPC at until April 2024
  • There is no age limitation
  • There is no incompatibility to participate in this program and be on PDI job boards at the UPC

Duration and timing

  • The program is scheduled to be offered again in the 2024-25 academic year, but is not fully confirmed. If it is offered, the number of places will be increased
  • The programme includes at least 30 hours of mentored teaching practice. If you do more, they will be certified. There is no problem if teaching activities have been carried out previously, but they will not be recognised

Language

  • The language of delivery of the training seminars will be English. Catalan or Spanish can be agreed depending on whether all the attendees agree
  • The language of delivery of the teaching practices will be agreed with the mentor

Formation

  • Previous training will not be validated
  • The training will be face-to-face
  • The training seminars will take place over two training days. Two editions of each will be scheduled. The first day will be in July 2023. The second edition is planned for September
  • Training: face-to-face session of 4.5 hours to be carried out in 1 morning

Teaching practices

  • Teaching practices can be done in 1 or 2 years and the distribution must be agreed with the mentor. They can be concentrated in 1 semester or distributed over the 2 semesters
  • The teaching practice may include the following activities:
    • Teach theoretical or practical lectures in the subject or subjects, determined by the mentor
    • Tutorials with students who have been taught to resolve doubts
    • Other activities specified by the mentor
    • Supervision and correction of exams and assignments, observation of personal tutorials, etc
    • It cannot involve responsibility or coordination on subjects, nor participation in end-of-study work panels or the signing of evaluation documents
    • Teaching placements will be agreed between academic mentors and young researchers before starting the programme

Mentor

  • You can only have 1 academic mentor
  • The name of the academic mentor must be included in the application. If you have more than 1 option, you must prioritize and order from 1 forward in order of preference
  • The mentor can be the student's thesis director

Others

  • Participation in the program has no financial compensation
  • Completion of this program will be taken into account when applying for any teaching position at the UPC. On the other hand, in the event that the participant enrolls in the Postgraduate Program: University Education in Science, Technology, Engineering, Architecture and Mathematics (STEAM), it will be validated. This postgraduate degree will be a preferred merit to opt for permanent teaching positions at the UPC

Duración y tiempo

  • El programa está programado para ofrecerse nuevamente en el año académico 2024-25, pero no está completamente confirmado. De llevarse a cabo, se aumentaría el número de plazas ofertadas
  • El programa incluye al menos 30 horas de práctica docente tutelada. Si hacen más, serán certificados. No hay problema con las actividades docentes anteriores, pero no se certificarán

Idioma

  • El idioma de impartición de los seminarios de formación es el inglés. Se puede convenir catalán o castellano en función de si todos los asistentes están de acuerdo
  • El idioma de entrega de las prácticas docentes se acordará con el tutor

Formación

  • No se convalida formación previa
  • La formación será presencial
  • El programa incluye dos jornadas de formación de las que se programarán dos ediciones de cada una. El primer día será en julio de 2023. La segunda edición está prevista para septiembre
  • Formación: sesión presencial de 4,5 horas a realizar en 1 mañana

Prácticas docentes

  • Las prácticas docentes se pueden realizar en 1 ó 2 años y la distribución se acordará con el tutor. Pueden concentrarse en 1 semestre o distribuirse en los 2 semestres
  • La enseñanza a impartir dentro de las prácticas consistirá en:
    • Impartir clases teóricas o prácticas en la materia o materias que determine el tutor
    • Tutorías con alumnos a los que se les ha impartido docencia para resolver dudas
    • Otras actividades especificadas por el mentor
    • Supervisión y corrección de exámenes y trabajos, observación de tutorías personales, etc
    • No puede implicar responsabilidad o coordinación de asignaturas, ni participación en mesas de trabajo de fin de carrera ni firma de documentos de evaluación
    • Las prácticas docentes se acordarán entre mentores académicos y jóvenes investigadores antes de iniciar el programa

Mentor

  • Solo puedes tener 1 mentor académico
  • El nombre del mentor académico debe incluirse en la solicitud. Si tiene más de 1 opción, debe priorizar y ordenar de 1 en adelante en orden de preferencia
  • El mentor puede ser el director de tesis del estudiante

Otros

  • La participación en el programa no tiene compensación económica
  • La finalización de este programa se tendrá en cuenta a la hora de solicitar cualquier plaza docente en la UPC. Por otro lado, en el caso de que el participante se matricule en el Programa de Posgrado Program: Enseñanza Universitaria en Ciencias, Tecnología, Ingeniería, Arquitectura y Matemáticas (STEAM), será válido. Este título de posgrado será un mérito preferente para optar a plazas docentes permanentes en la UPC
